THE ELKHURST SWINGING BRIDGE ABOVE DORFEE,WV!

The wooden plank bridge is eight feet wide and more than 400 feet across.

I've had plenty of found times across the bridge in elkhurst an out beechy and down at the edge of dorfee. Hate to see the state not fix it, they paved the railroad right of way for travel which is against the law to spend state and federal money on private land and with no agreement.

I'm thinking about this bridge as a tourist attraction. What's on the end of either side of it? Enough room to park your car so you can walk across? How about enough room for a picnic table and a trash can (chained to a tree so no one steals it of course). So the meeting at the historical society is in March?

Why, anonymous, do you think it should be tore down? I don't recall seeing any other comments in favor of tearing down the bridge. At least the ones wanting to save the bridge have reasons for wanting to keep the bridge. It would be nice if you could tell us why you think it should be torn down.

or dive off it head first when the rivers low.

????? I think something got lost here but if someone diving off the bridge to off themselves is a reason for tearing down the bridge, that dog don't hunt. If someone wants to end it all, they will find a way. If someone wants to do it just for fun, then they need help. Would be nice if this comment could be clarified.

The swinging bridge could be a tourist gold mine. People would come from miles around to drive across it. trinket sellers could even make money.
With that in mind, Clay doesn't deserve it. I agree with anon, tear it down.

I mean that the person who said to tear it down should dive off head first when the waters low. Why tear down a landmark like that? I still dont see wheres they said would a be a good reason to tear it down. They arent none. It should be restored.

4:58 anon, you're the idiot. What are you even talking about?

Hippy, I thought Heartland Bridge was sitting like it is because of some sort of river ecosystem or some such like that, that wasn't supposed to be disturbed. I heard that somewhere, does it sound familar at all?

I dont think the swinging bridge will bring in money for the county. It is beautiful and it means alot to us, memories an such. But for bringing in money. Just aint going to happen. Only way ppl are gonna come see it if you hold a special event. I would love to see the bridge saved.... I didnt know it was that bad though, look at the other local bridges that we use daily..... Now they need repair.
